Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards is one of the biggest innovation and branding awards organization of Turkey, and organized with the collaboration of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Trade, the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) and the Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey (ETMK), within the framework of TURQUALITY® program. This year, 8th. Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards were presented in Haliç Congress Center on November 15th, 2019. In the award ceremony, which is organized within the scope of Design Week Turkey (DWT), students and graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design have been awarded. IUE Interior Architecture and Environmental Design graduates and founders of Wangan design office Kerem Özerler, Kutay Yorulmaz and Mert Can Uzyıldırım received the award of Good Design in the category of home furniture. IUE Industrial Design graduate Elvin Eril has also been awarded the Good Design Award in the category of packaging.
A technical trip was organized to Kütahya for second year Industrial Design students. Academicians and second year students from the Department of Industrial Design visited Kütahya Porselen. They had a chance to see production technologies.
The students asked their questions regarding the production process of porcelain. Now, they will design porcelain tableware in the scope of ID201 Product Design Studio course.
Students from the Department of Industrial Design, İzmir University of Economics (IUE) participated in the 5th “I’m Design 2019” event which was organized by İMOS (Association of İnegöl Furniture Manufacturers) between 26 February and 2 March 2019 in İnegöl.

Izmir University of Economics, Department of Industrial Design has been praised and congratulated in Istanbul Design Week 2018. The exhibition that consists of the selection of graduation projects in 2018, the award-winning projects of 2017 graduates and the university-industry collaboration projects drew considerable attention. Numerous company representatives that visited the exhibition demanded collaborative projects with IUE in the forthcoming years and congratulated students and instructors. There were also representatives of the WDO (World Design Organization) who visited the exhibition and shared opinions with the students. IUE Department of Industrial Design and students were honoured and praised by David Kusuma, Vice President of Tupperware Brands Corporation and Srini R. Srinivasan, President-Elect of WDO.
Izmir University of Economics, Department of Industrial Design graduates and students play a significant role and earn a great success in the field of Industrial Design in Turkey. 2018 graduate Birçem Güler took third place in IMMIB Industrial Design Competition 2018. 2017 graduate Hande Yenen has been awarded in Design Turkey 2018 Conceptual Design category. 2017 graduate Selen Usta and 2015 graduate Buğra Mütevelli have been awarded in the professional category in the name of Serel Company. Furthermore, 2011 graduate and the Member of Advisory Board of the Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Özgür Deniz Çetin has received one of the awards of Design Turkey 2018 in the category of Superior Design in the name of CMS. Good news from Russia! PUSHKA is one of the biggest international design and innovation contests. This year ten universities including Moscow Polytech, Moscow State Technical University, St. Petersburgh Polytech from Russia’s and Lahti University from Finland’s most successful educational institutions participated in the contest. Oğulcan Aksan, senior Industrial Design student in Izmir University of Economics, with his transportation design project outdistanced other participants who specialized in transportation design and became one of the three finalists. Furthermore, he is entitled to participate in the award ceremony in Russia and all the expenses are covered by the Russian Federation.
